The Virgin Hot Toddy

A Hot Toddy is typically something your grandma or maybe your mother would have made you when you were sick. It's bursting with therapeutic herbs, spices and vitamin C. The traditional Hot Toddy is of course with whisky, but I won’t be adding that to this VIRGIN version!
Makes 1 cup
  • ½ cup of organic cloudy apple juice
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 TSP of grated ginger
  • A squeeze of lemon or lime
  • Pinch ground turmeric (*optional)
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper (*optional)
  1. Put the liquids into a pan, cover with a lid and bring to a simmer over a medium heat.
  2. Add the grated ginger, cloves and cinnamon and simmer with the lid on for another 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat and let it infuse, with the lid on, for 5 minutes.
  4. Strain into a cup or mug and add a squeeze of lemon to add vitamin C.
  5. Add a pinch of turmeric and cayenne pepper if you like it quite spicy.
  6. This makes 1 cup.
